The WDC Hall of Fame Welcomes: Jose Solis Betancourt and Paul Sherrill

The WDC proudly welcomes Jose Solis Betancourt and Paul Sherrill, of Solis Betancourt & Sherrill to its Hall of Fame.

A Solis Betancourt & Sherrill project in Potomac, MD, illustrates the exquisite beauty of their work.

 Since opening his own firm in 1990, José Solis Betancourt has been an influential part of Washington and its design community. Solis is an architect as well as an interior designer. He studied at Cornell University and keeps his work rooted in the classics, drawing inspiration from Palladio.Paul Sherrill graduated with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Human and Environmental Sciences and a degree in Art. In 1992, he relocated to Washington and began working as an interior designer for Solis Betancourt. Sherrill was later named partner and serves as vice president of Solis Betancourt, Inc.

In the fall of 2010, their book Essential Elegance: The Interiors of Solis Betancourt was published. The book reveals 14 recent projects; each is introduced through a vignette focused on the artwork that served as its design inspiration.

Their active charity involvement includes work with The Kennedy Center’s Latin Gala, The Washington National Opera and NSO showhouses. Work with The Aid for AIDS Foundation and the Museo del Bario continue to be commitments, and this year, both Jose and Paul sit on committees for the 2011 Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Gala, and The Interior Design Committee for the Young Collectors Night at the Winter Antiques Show.

Solis Betancourt & Sherrill has executed numerous award-winning commissions and has created a Solis Betancourt Lighting, a signature collection of lighting in collaboration with Holly Hunt Showrooms.

The Washington Design Center is proud to honor Jose and Paul for their many accomplishments in interior design and architecture along with their volunteer efforts and committment in the community at large.
