Martyn Lawrence Bullard to Speak Feb. 21

We can’t think of a better way to begin our Capital Design Lecture Series than with Bravo’s Million-Dollar Decorator, Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

Martyn, who just released a dazzling line of fabrics with Schumacher, will be joined by Schumacher’s Senior Vice President and Creative Director, Susan North, in a conversation about “The Road to Landing a Licensed Fabric Collection.”

Also joining us will be DC Modern Luxury Editor in Chief Karen Sommer Shalett, who will moderate the discussion.

I had the privilege of seeing Martyn speak at our Merchandise Mart Design Center in Chicago last fall, so I know you are all in for a treat. “We really wanted this element of artisinal, hand-crafted textiles to be part of this collection,” he said. “The real beauty of all this is actually to understand that (the patterns) are all hand-done.”

You can see that handwork in this embroidery in particular:

Martyn used many of his new fabrics in the recent Maison de Luxe showhouse at the Greystone mansion in Beverly Hills. This embroidery, for example, comes alive on a lamp shade:

The walls are upholstered with Martyn’s gorgeous paisley pattern, and the drapes behind the lamp are also from his collection. The height of decadence, these fabrics are also repeated on the bed:

There is almost nothing in this master bedroom suite that is not covered in his fabric.

Martyn’s talk is at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. You can click here to register. There is also a luncheon in the Schumacher showroom following the talk, where Martyn will sign his new book, Live, Love & Decorate:

SPACE IS LIMITED, however, so RSVP is required: e-mail showroom manager Jules Lesher at jlesher@fsco.com to attend this designers-only lunch.

Until then, we will leave you with some more images of his sumptuous collection — and look forward to hearing his numerous stories about what inspired them when he is here!
